This year, we are celebrating the 17th edition of the Latin American Days in Leipzig – and are delighted to welcome you from 14 to 23 October 2026. Look forward to ten days filled with films, workshops, talks – and more than a few surprises.

The Latin American Days Leipzig were founded in 2010 by Diego Hernán Serra and have been organised by Sudaca e.V. ever since. Following a series of lectures and cultural events in its early years, the association began regularly screening Latin American films in Leipzig from 2005 onwards, before the festival moved to an annual format in 2010. The festival venues included various cinemas in Leipzig and Halle (Saale), with the Schaubühne becoming its central main venue from 2012 onwards. From 2022, the festival was headed by Greta Lürßen.

The programme featured contemporary feature-length and short films in their original languages with subtitles, ranging from international award-winning films to brand-new productions. Alongside the film programme, the association also organised a wide range of workshops, talks and panel discussions addressing socially relevant topics such as human rights, migration and same-sex marriage.
