69. DOK Leipzig

Founded in 1955, DOK Leipzig is the world’s oldest documentary film festival. The history of the festival has been shaped by political upheavals and is closely linked to Germany’s divided past.

During the festival week in autumn, DOK Leipzig takes place throughout the city. Numerous cinemas and venues become festival locations, and every year we also screen films free of charge at Leipzig Central Station.

Watching films together and talking about them together – DOK Leipzig is above all a place for dialogue and debate. Post-screening discussions with filmmakers, programme talks and masterclasses encourage an exchange of ideas about film as an art form and the artistic exploration of the world. In our discussion formats and film programme, we deliberately bring opposing viewpoints into conversation and encourage our audiences to engage with controversial topics.

The extended reality exhibition DOK Neuland expands the film programme with immersive works. Using new media such as virtual reality, augmented reality and 360° experiences, these projects challenge conventional forms of storytelling and open up new experiential spaces for visitors.
