Vulgäre Ausdrücke, blanke Brüste und die richtigen Argumente. Die ugandische Feministin Stella Nyanzi provoziert den seit 1986 amtierenden Staatschef Museveni und stellt sich selbst zur Wahl.
Wenn Stella Nyanzi einen Raum betritt, ist Action angesagt. Die ugandische Feministin, Genderforscherin, Anthropologin und Poetin nimmt bei ihrem Kampf gegen die staatliche Unterdrückung kein Blatt vor dem Mund. Mit einem vulgären Gedicht verhöhnt sie den seit fast 40 Jahren amtierenden Staatschef Yoweri Museveni und kommt dafür 2017 ins Gefängnis. Nach ihrer Freilassung kandidiert Nyanzi für das Parlament, ohne das nötige Geld für eine Wahlkampagne zu haben. Mit ihren Kindern druckt und verteilt sie Plakate und Flugblätter in den Slums von Kampala. Die Tochter schminkt und frisiert ihre Mutter für öffentliche Auftritte. Manchmal wünschen sich die fast erwachsenen Kinder mehr Zeit für sich selbst. Wiederholt sieht sich die Familie mit Polizeigewalt konfrontiert und emigriert schließlich nach Deutschland.
Mit einer beweglichen Handkamera übernimmt der Film die Power seiner Protagonistin, sein Rhythmus entspricht ihren wütenden Texten. Es entsteht das Porträt einer Frau, die Radikalität und Provokation zu ihrer Lebensform erklärt. Man kommt einer Aktivistin näher, die sich und ihre nächste Umgebung permanent überfordert. Dennoch kann man sich der Energie von Stella Nyanzi kaum entziehen.

When Stella Nyanzi enters a room, action is guaranteed. The Ugandan feminist, gender researcher, anthropologist and poet does not mince her words in her fight against state oppression. She went to prison in 2017 for a vulgar poem in which she ridiculed head of state Yoweri Museveni, who has been in office for almost 40 years. After she was released, Nyanzi ran for Parliament without the necessary funds for a campaign, printing and distributing posters and flyers in the slums of Kampala with her children. Her daughter did her mother’s make-up and hair for public appearances. Sometimes her almost adult children longed for more time for themselves. The family repeatedly faced police violence and finally emigrated to Germany.
Using a mobile handheld camera, the film absorbs its protagonist’s power, its rhythm matching her angry lyrics. The result is the portrait of a woman who has made radicalism and provocation her way of life. We get to know an activist who permanently pushes herself and the people around her to the limits. Still, it is hard not to get infected by Stella Nyanzi’s energy.
