Videos von Handys, Camcordern und GoPros ukrainischer Soldat:innen werden zu einer surrealen Reise an die Frontlinie des Krieges mit Russland verwoben. Der Film zeigt eine bizarre Welt mit eigenen Gesetzen: Menschen verhalten sich anders, Beziehungen entwickeln sich anders und der Humor schlägt andere Töne an. Protagonist:innen wachen auf und schlafen ein, immer mit dem Gefühl, dass die Aufnahme jeden Moment enden kann.
Weder zu poetisch noch zu dramatisch beschreibt „War Note“ einen Alltag voller Risiken und Routine.

War Note
Personal videos from the phones, camcorders, cameras and GoPros of Ukrainian soldiers are woven into a surreal journey to the frontline of the war with Russia. The film shows a bizarre world whose laws are quite different from what we are used to. The behaviour is different, the relationships unfold differently and the humour takes on different notes. The heroes wake up and fall asleep, rejoice and cry, always feeling that the recording may end at any moment.

Krieg und Umweltzerstörung sind Themen, die den Alltag der Bevölkerung von Mariupol durchdringen, auch den von Zoya Laktionovas Familie. Die Regisseurin nähert sich aus einer persönlichen Perspektive der Stadt, die 2022 zu einem Hauptziel der russischen Invasion wurde. Der Beschuss beschädigte Mariupol schwer. Das Stahlwerk Azovstal, von großer Bedeutung für Zoyas Familie, verwandelte sich in einen Bunker mit Tausenden von Bürger:innen und ukrainischen Soldat:innen, die von den russischen Truppen eingeschlossen wurden.

World War II and the plant caused my mother's family to move to Mariupol. The war with Russia and the environmental consequences of the plant's operation play a key role in its future life.
