Dido and Aeneas – Scenes for a new age
Erleben Sie Henry Purcells berühmte Oper DIDO UND AENEAS in Verbindung mit Neukompositionen, die der ukrainische Komponist Adrian Macanu auf Grundlage eines Gedichts von Sylvia Plath geschaffen hat. Dabei verschmelzen Mythos und Gegenwart im Kampf einer Frau darum, sie selbst sein zu können.
Die Oper wird vom Ensemble Lachrymae aufgeführt, einem Barockorchester und Chor junger internationaler Musiker:innen aus Leipzig. An der Produktion sind auch junge Streetdancer des Schulensembles Tanz am Taro beteiligt.

This new production of Charpentier’s opera DAVID ET JONATHAS (1688) combines the musical language of the Baroque with a contemporary, abstract visual and character world: Jonathas and David are friends, even though David appears as an adversary of Jonathas’s father, Saul. Thus, Jonathan finds himself caught in a conflict between personal attachment and family loyalty – and with him arises the question of what remains of friendship when political power comes between people.
